Riolu evolution — is Gen 2 relevant here or am I mixing something up?

Question

Trying to evolve my Riolu but wanted to double check the actual requirement — pretty sure it's friendship-based and happens during the day, not tied to Gen 2 at all since Riolu's actually a Gen 4 Pokémon. Can someone confirm the exact Riolu evolution conditions?

Aney · Answer

Riolu evolves into Lucario through friendship during the daytime. Its evolution is associated with Generation IV, so considering Generation II mechanics would be mixing different game-generation details incorrectly in practice.

Aney · Answer

The Dome Fossil revives into Kabuto, while the Helix Fossil gives Omanyte. Both are Rock/Water Pokémon, so the choice mostly comes down to your preferred Pokémon, moveset, and team.
