"Mega Darkrai ex" — is this an actual card/mechanic or a mix-up?

Question

Saw something referencing "Mega Darkrai ex" but as far as I know Darkrai doesn't have an official Mega Evolution in the games, and "ex" is a separate TCG card mechanic entirely. Anyone know if this is a real card, a fan concept, or just people mixing up terminology?

Ankit · Answer

It is real. Mega Darkrai ex is an official Pokémon TCG card from the Mega Evolution—Pitch Black expansion. It is a Darkness-type Basic Mega Evolution Pokémon ex with 280 HP. Its Mega Evolution ex rule means the opponent takes 3 Prize cards when it is Knocked Out. So “Mega Darkrai ex” isn't a fan-made combination or mix-up.

Jason · Answer

It sounds like a mix-up. Darkrai ex is an actual Pokémon TCG card, but “Mega Darkrai ex” isn’t the standard name of a card/mechanic. “Mega” refers to Mega Evolution Pokémon, while Darkrai has appeared as Darkrai ex in the TCG. So someone may be combining “Mega” with Darkrai ex, or referring to a fan-made/custom card.

Aney · Answer

Mega Darkrai ex is an actual Mega Evolution Pokémon ex card. Its abilities include Dusk Raid and Abyss Eye, with three Prize cards awarded when knocked out.

Alex · Answer

It’s real, not a mix-up. Mega Darkrai ex is an official Pokémon TCG card introduced in the Mega Evolution—Pitch Black expansion. It has 280 HP, is a Darkness-type Mega Evolution ex, and features Dusk Raid and Abyss Eye.
