Could you actually trade Pokémon from Red all the way to Ultra Moon?

Question

Curious about the technical side of this — could you trade Pokémon from Red to Ultra Moon directly, or does it require going through several transfer steps/games in between like Pokémon Bank?

Collins · Answer

Not with the original cartridges, sadly, since Gen 1 and 2 can’t move forward. If you use the Virtual Console versions on 3DS with Pokémon Bank and the Poké Transporter, it works.
