Blastoise — does it hold up as a starter final evo anymore?

Question

Blastoise was my go-to as a kid but curious how it stacks up against newer Water-type starters competitively. Still solid bulk, or has it been passed by at this point?

Ankit · Answer

Yes. Blastoise still has a solid defensive profile, with 100 Defense, 105 Special Defense, and a 530 base-stat total. Its 78 Speed is a limitation, but it can function as a bulky Water-type rather than relying on speed. Its Mega Evolution and Gigantamax form have also given it additional options in games where they're available.

Soren · Answer

Blastoise remains a solid Water-type starter evolution, especially when you need good defensive stats and reliable Water moves. Its usefulness depends on the game and available moves, abilities, and team composition.
