Alakazam — is it still viable with 4x weaknesses or has it fallen behind?
Alakazam's special attack and speed are still elite on paper, but that glass cannon typing and quad weakness to Bug and Ghost feels riskier every generation as movepools expand. Does it still earn a team slot competitively or do the newer Psychic-types just do the job safer?

Yes, Sand Stream is still valuable on Tyranitar, especially on teams built around sand. It automatically creates a sandstorm when Tyranitar enters battle, giving it a Special Defense boost and providing passive chip damage.

Alakazam has no 4× weaknesses as a pure Psychic type. Despite its frailty, exceptional Speed and Special Attack keep it viable as a powerful special attacker with proper support.

Alakazam can still be effective because of its high Special Attack and Speed. Its defensive limitations mean it usually works best when brought in safely and used offensively. Its usefulness varies by generation, moveset, and competitive format.

Alakazam can still be useful, mainly because its huge Special Attack and Speed let it hit hard before taking a hit. The problem is its poor defenses and weaknesses make switching it in risky, so it works best as a fast attacker rather than something you leave on the field. I’d say it hasn’t become useless, but it’s much more matchup-dependent than it used to be.
